Nothing skews a person’s rational (Pre-frontal) brain more than inconsistency. This is what causes those who struggle with addiction issues to suffer. The rational brain cannot make sense out of continuing to do something behaviorally, it commits not to. Such behavior universally creates a moral inward suffering. Understanding that the bullying addict is just a part of you and not totally you, is extremely insightful and helpful.
The pre-frontal rational brain can learn to be assertive enough to protect itself. It can do this by clearly refusing to be a victim of the incessant cravings of the addicted brain.
Accept – surrender and acknowledge the fact that cravings come from time to time and move on in spite of them. This you can do.
Nothing will bring you more peace than consistent right choices.

In recovery work people are better off if they get their minds off the final outcome and onto a daily ritual of recovery work. Concentrate on the routines. Some say that winning or being sober cures all ills. Maybe so, but without awareness and mindfulness winning can also make us fall into the trap of overlooking mistakes. Just worry practicing your daily plan each day. Former basketball coach from North Carolina believed the following.
“A highly organized practice was necessary to a successful program. The drills were very specific, and all segments were timed. Excellent performance is the result of excellent practice. Great leaders are adept at identifying and tending to the crucial details.”
In recovery work these principles are sound if followed when based on the concepts of acceptance and surrender.
You can do it, don’t give up! Plan your day and stay focused to your plan. If something interrupts that plan, jump back to the plan as soon as you can.

A Common message that we receive on a regular basis is the importance of doing the dailies consistently:
We have heard it over and over again from clients that they are doing very well in managing their addiction, when they do their dailies. The exact opposite occurs if they stop doing their dailies.
Doing the Dailies and planning out your day so that you can stay focused on your goals and avoid triggers, is essential.
I want to leave you with a quote from Charles Darwin, which summarizes our feeling and importance of the dailies.
“A man/woman who dares to waste one hour of time has not discovered the value of life”- Charles Darwin
